NEW PROJECT
Project title- Applicability and versatility of vermicomposting to transform digestate of different biogas plants in to organic and ecological fertilizers.
Edelmark AS has won a grant for a main research project called ‘‘Applicability and versatility of vermicomposting to transform digestate of different biogas plants into organic and ecological fertilizers’‘ from Regionalt forskningsfond- Viken (Viken RFF).
The main goal of the project is: –
- “Understanding the applicability and versatility of our solution to handle liquid and solid digestate of different biogas facilities in Norway” and has the following subgoals.
- Understanding the effect of different types of digestate on the quality of the fertilizers to be produced after a vermicomposting process. Samples of digestate, vermicompost and liquid fertilizer produced from the digestates of three facilities will be sent for quality analysis. The results will be compared with the limits allowed in Norway. This will be conducted by Edelmark AS in collaboration with NMBU, INN and external laboratories.
- Assessing the effect of different types of liquid fertilizers on the growth of different plants at different cultivation systems. Growth experiments will be conducted on vegetables and herbs to determine dosage of application in both growing chambers and greenhouses. Agronomic data will be collected.
- Explore the commercial qualities of processes and products by determining durability and stability the liquid fertilizers produced from different digestates. Durability and stability of the fertilizers will be evaluated in collaboration with NMBU and INN.
The research activities of this project will be the testing of different types of digestate to increase the understanding of the applicability and versatility of the vermicomposting process. Digestate of different biogas facilities will be fed to thousands and millions of earthworms in a bioreactor and transformed to vermicompost.
The vermicompost will then be used as a raw material to extract liquid fertilizers that will be tested for quality as well as suitability as ecological fertilizers.
The results of the project will directly benefit:
- The biogas industry that produces digestate both in liquid and solid forms
- Companies that handle bioresources and produce organic waste.
- Small- and large-scale plant growers who are looking for sustainable and circular agricultural inputs to produce organic and ecological foods.
- Research institutions with new knowledge and expertise.
- Society at large from the jobs to be created and a biotechnological solution with an impact on reduction of GHG emission.

EXECUTED PROJECTS
Different bio-wastes to diverse product (BIOPRO) - A preliminary research
EdelMark AS has received a financial support from Viken Regionalt forskningsfond (Viken RFF) for a research project entitled “Different bio-wastes to diverse product (BIOPRO)”.
The main goal of the project is to test and document conversion of different types of organic wastes into organic fertilizers and soil amendments through earthworm composting, thereby establishing efficient and profitable production of nutrient-rich and eco-friendly organic products in solid and liquid form.
Sub goals of the research project are:
- To Identify and document the favorable environmental conditions for the vermicomposting process of the different types of organic wastes.
- To Identify and document the properties of different types of organic waste and the vermicomposts (physical, chemical, and biological) and, consequently, to gain Knowledge on what the most important biochemical or physical components in various vermicomposts are.
- To produce organic fertilizers and products that give at least same yield as chemical based fertilizers and growing medium.
Project will have an Impact on the
- Creation of a platform for regional networking among research organizations, farmers, sellers, private actors, and public owned companies.
- Promotion of organic fertilizers as a sustainable alternative to produce healthy and environmentally friendly food.
- Involvement of regional network and competence and the use of regional researchers from USN & INN to cooperate the testing and approval of valuable sustainable products important to produce healthy food.
- Dissemination of relevant information through channels like reports, workshops, showcases and scientific journals.

A Preliminary reserach project on Quality, Suitability, and Compatiblity of Edel-Juice as organic fertilizer
EdelMark AS has received a financial support from Viken Regionalt forskningsfond (Viken RFF) for a research project called »Edel-Juice».
The main-goal of the project is to make preliminary evaluations of the liquid organic fertilizers compatibility and versatility for various production systems.
The sub-goals of the research project are:
- Tests of the suitability of the product under different cultivation conditions. Growth experiments will be conducted on vegetables and herb plants together with the pilot future customers
- Determination the quality parameters of the Edel-Juice produced at different scales of production. Edelmark shall collaborate with NMBU, USN and INN to document the chemical, physical and biological quality parameters of Edel-Juice
- Determination of the durability and stability over time to document how stable Edel- juice is in relation to storage lifetime under different temperature conditions. Edelmark shall collaborate with NMBU, USN and INN to document changes in the chemical, physical and biological quality parameters of Edel-Juice over time.
